Secret Santa Score!

My Secret Santa at work did an outstanding job this year.

Each year there's a sign up sheet with space for some suggestions posted, just in case you need a little help.

I threw caution to the wind and wrote "Surprise Me" on my lines

This year a like minded friend had drawn my name and he made sure I did not regret my suggestion.  Along with a frosty 6-pack of a delicious winter brew, he also gave me the 1966 Batman & Robin Classics two-pack from Mattel.

He knew I had recently picked up the Joker from this line, this was a brilliant move.

I've had the set under the tree until today.

I had to break 'em outta the box and mount the building facade to the wall.  I know this won't be a permanent situation and gravity will catch up with me, but it looks pretty cool for now.

The new figures gave me an excuse to dust off some shelves and reorganize a portion of my Bat-Collection a bit.

Adam Bomb and Friends MiniKins by Topps

Halloween didn't pull me outta my blogging slump, but I stumbled across these at Target this morning and that did it. Slump over. These are fantastic.

About time! A series of Garbage Pail Kids mini figures!  These are available in these four packs and also in blind bagged two packs.

The figures are hidden securely in this black bag.  No peaking.

They include cool little character specific stickers.

The figures inside are monochromatic, only the display figure is painted.  I like the single color better.  The detail is great for size.

About 2/3 as big as a M.U.S.C.L.E., fun size.

I'll open 'em all up and post some individual glamour shots soon.

I am puzzled as to why they are hiding behind the name MiniKins / Adam Bomb and Friends.

Did Topps license Garbage Pail Kids figures to another company?

Whatever the name, I am digging these guys.

EDIT: I was mistaken on a lot of details regarding these guys.  The whether a  figure is hidden or not has no bearing on them being painted.  There are different color sets to collect plus a painted set.  There's probably been a ton written about these.  Please use the search engine of your choice to find more info from someone more knowledgeable.

A glimmer of hope on this crappy Monday

Today has been such a Monday.  Nothing major or life ending, just one lousy thing after another adding up to a very blech kinda day.

Then, while idly surfing the web I stumbled upon Burger Kings kids meal page.

At the bottom, below the Care Bears and Beyblade I saw this . . .

Dare I dream that we are getting another run of Simpsons Treehouse of Horror toys from Burger King?

Simpsons Halloween Burger King toys are some of my favorite fast food premiums ever.

Today is starting to look up.

Haunted Mansion Lantern

I'm not sure if I'm going to have a Halloween countdown this year or not. Either way I couldn't wait to show this bad boy off.

I first saw this on the Disney Store's website last year and never got around to ordering it.  When I saw it return this year, I knew I wasn't going to waste any time getting one to add to my Halloween decor. A nice discount sealed the deal.

At first glance, this looks like a generic run of the mill piece of Disney Halloween merch.  Mickey and the gang in costumes for Halloween. Cute, I guess.

(I apologize for the picture quality, took these on the fly this morning)

As you rotate this guy it becomes awesome.  These pics don't do it justice, really spooky Haunted Mansion graphics cover 2/3 of this this beaut.

Now that I've seen it all lit up, I may keep an eye out for a good deal to grab a second.

This thing just drips eerie Haunted Mansion spookiness.

Bring on fall!

A pair of penguins

. . . and now, for no reason, a pair of penguins.  Please enjoy.

Marvel Zerboz Micro Racers

I told myself awhile back that I'd be cutting down on smaller, blind packed toys.  Yet somehow, one or two of these guys find their way into my cart each time I venture into Wal-Mart.  At only 99 cents a pop, it's hard not to grab one or two.

These have a little of a nostalgic Micro Machines feel to them.  I like the size and detail.

I'm not going to go nuts collecting these, but it's fun to see how they interpret the characters into auto form.

Auto Avengers

For the kiddies, the grey lids are road, ramp and launcher pieces.

Not a bad deal for less than a buck.  Anyone else picking these up?

Spring Summer absence

Hey gang!  I haven't posted in a long time.  Work is busy this time of year and my girlfriend and I have been doing everything in our power not to waste a minute of the beautiful WNY spring and summer.

Among the fun that's kept me from blogging, a day of orienteering, a kayaking tour on the Buffalo River, Primus concert, a bike ride along the Niagara, Watkins Glen hike, drank our way via ferry through the Lake Erie pub crawl, learned Tai Chi, walked over the Rainbow Bridge into Canada and back, and attended Clevelands first Vegfest.

While in Ohio for Vegfest, my girlfriend scored this adorable couple.  These two are destined to get into lots of trouble together. Sometime soon I'll take them on some photo adventures.

I was going to do an entire week of posts to countdown to Monsters University. Best laid plans . . .

I haven't caught the movie yet, but look forward to the Crystal/Goodman re-pairing.  Maybe after I see it I'll be inspired to do more with these guys.

On our journeys we discovered that crane machines had been invaded by plush tiki!  I love tiki.  This guy is one of four who now live with us, two still elude the claw.

I caught Star Trek and am still on the lookout for the Enterprise Kre-O.  We saw GI Joe and Superman and dug them both.  I had no problem scoring a few pieces of merchandise from those films to add to the pile of randomness.  So, maybe stuff will make it's way on here too.

I'll get back to posting eventually.  Comic Con always gets my nerd up and if that doesn't motivate me, the back to school sales in late June remind me that in August we'll start to see the first signs of Halloween creep out.

TMNT Fun

These figures are great.  Saw Baxter on the shelf too and took a pass.

Really looking forward to the Rat King, I'm digging this line.

Quick Randomness Update

When spring comes in Western New York work gets crazy, everything starts to happen around town, and I just want to outside and play.  As a result, I haven't had a lot of time for collecting or blogging, but here are some recent highlights.

First off, thanks to all the folks who signed up for Loot Crate with my referral link.  The credits allowed me to continue my subscription.  The new crate was waiting for me when I arrived home yesterday and it didn't disappoint. I'm not going to do a full review here, but the highlight for me of this video game themed package was the Space Invaders arcade machine candy tin.  It looks excellent next to the Pac-Man one.  Check out Loot Crate here.

I recently scored my first Funko Disney Mystery Minis.  Of the characters I found this time around, my favorite of my first round is Maleficent here.  I am impressed with these, I really like the aesthetic. There's a few more I want so I'll definitely be diving in for more.

I  also added a couple of Funko Wacky Wobblers to the pile of randomness with these two guys.  I really like the size and detail of these.

Finally, I'll leave with something I only wish was in my collection.  A floating anthropomorphic potato.

Star Wars Muppet Madness

Just listened to a podcast this morning about Jim Henson and Disney, get to my desk this morning and this greets me over at Topless Robot

Bean Bunny as an Ewok is killing me and I'm pretty sure I'm going need to have those chickens.

Three Threepios

I just got my first Star Wars POP!  from Loot Crate. It won't be my last.  I've been passing on the Star Wars POP! because of the bobble and the stand.  I understand the license issues with Hasbro/vinyl figures necessitates those features, but there have been so many other POP! I've wanted, I couldn't justify more new Star Wars stuff I wasn't really digging.   Now that I see the stand is detachable and I've handled one of these guys, I'm all turned around, and will grab a few when the wallet allows it.

Took some pics this morning for fun.

Loot Crate Fun

Since I was a wee little nerd, I've like to receive surprises and packages in the mail.  About a month ago I  heard about Loot Crate and was pretty sure they'd be getting my money for at least one month.  I subscribed to their emails and soon received a nice coupon, that sealed the deal.

For well under $20 shipped, you get a box of stuff all chosen around a particular geek theme.

For the March Loot Crate, my first crate, the theme was revealed to be "cosmos" so I was pretty sure I'd be happy with what was sent.

Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a Funko POP! C-3PO.  My love of Funko is no secret, already this box is a win.

The Star Trek button is cool, simple, classy, I approve.

The Hex Bug is a pleasant addition too, I enjoyed the one I scored at Halloween last year.

There's a wristband and a few Star Wars postcards and a video game wall graphic too.  This is fun.  The box is a welcome distraction at the end of a short, busy work week.

If you wanna check it out, head over to Loot Crate, if you decide to sign up, please use this link I'll score some referral credit.  Thanks.

Kusan Monster Bobbles

Another score from Saturday, this is exactly the kind of strangeness I'm on the hunt for when I head to toy shows and flea markets.  I never heard of these or the manufacturer but I dig the aesthetic.

They have wheels and when pushed the inside pieces move up and down.  The magnets keep heads and bodies creepily separate.

I only know the manufacturer because this picture was conveniently posted on Flickr by a collector I follow as a "contact" there.
