Batman Week - Finale

Each year, as part of one of my favorite local festivals, Canal Fest, there's a "down & dirty" boat building competition.

After walking the festival's craft show and midway, I settled in with my girlfriend and her folks to enjoy some snacks and watch the chaos. The competitors built their boats earlier in the week with limited resources and time.  The result being some ships are more seaworthy than others, adding to the resulting insanity.

The Dark Knight and Boy wonder were the fan favorites and their sturdy Batboat went on to win the heat.

After the official races, there's a a free-for-all, demolition derby.  As the final challenge started, my money was on the Dynamic Duo.

Unfortunately, it was not to be this day for Gotham's protectors.  Robin even had the foresight to leave a parting exclamation to been seen on the hull of their ship as the wreckage of the Batboat sank.

Perhaps next year ol' chum.

Batman Week - Wishlist

We heard from Comic-Con that Mattel is going to be making  Batman 1966 TV series style action figures. THis is awesome news, although I have a bad feeling it'll be an expensive Matty Collector nightmare.  Regardless, I'll be adding some to my collection when they come out in 2014 (2014?!?! is that right)

Let's see, I'll need a Batman, Robin, Joker, Penguin and Riddler, those are no-brainers.

Even though I am not super well versed in the show, I'm familiar enough to know I also want figures of the crazier more out there villains.

Like Victor Buono as King Tut

or Vincent Price as Egghead

What's the feeling on this? Any big time Adam West Batman fans with a wishlist out there?

Who knows, if this does well, maybe they’ll revisit some other Batman properties and I’ll get my Danny DeVito Penguin

Batman Week - Batman Returns

I liked the 1989 Batman, it was ok.  I could have lived without Prince, but it was an OK movie.  Then we got the sequel; Batman Returns.

I was out of my head for this movie.  I really dug the type casting of DeVito as the Penguin. Michelle Peifer as Catwoman.  Christopher Walken!  That movie is awesome!  The whole thing just oozes Tim Burton.  I used to be a huge Tim Burton fan (before he became the guy who re-imagines everything)

A quick search through the random stuff and I don't have any action figures though.  How is that possible? I love that movie, I must have something other than this Topps souvenir magazine.

Mmm, let's see . . .
I'll take a quick look at eBay.  Oh great, I found it! A perfect spot on Batman Returns Danny DeVito Penguin, I'll bid now.

from eBay

What the what!?!? This looks nothing like DeVito, it's a Super-Powers re-paint.
Curses.
Was the action figure scene really that poor back in the day?  Do McDonalds premiums have to fill that collection hole?  (Which after seeing them, I may have to get anyways).

Can anyone provide some insight on the lack of good Batman Returns figures?

Where's my mainstream, mass-produced Danny DeVito Penguin?

Batman Week - Batman the Animated Series

Batman week is going to start out with a bit of a show and tell featuring my favorite Batman, Combat Belt Batman from Batman the Animated Series.

Batman the Animated Series was ground breaking, it set itself apart with great story, voice talent and a smooth Art Deco kind of style.  The cool character design lent itself to great action figures, so I grabbed as many as I could get my hands on.

Including this guy, Combat Belt Batman, which is the best looking animated Batman figure to this day.  His accessories are long gone, but he holds up great.

This line kicked my figure collecting into gear.  These figures display great and capture the style of the show perfectly.

Batman Week

I know everyone is preoccupied with Comic-Con news, releases, and exclusives but in the midst of all that, there's a little movie quietly being released at the end of the week.

The Dark Knight Rises opens on Friday and I feel I'd do my part to bring it a little attention with a Batman Week here amid the other Random Stuff.

I'm not a hard core Batman fan, I don't claim to be an expert in any area of Bat-mania (Bat-o-phelia? Bat-dom?) I'm just going to share some of my different Batman toys, tchotchkes and nostalgia.  See you tomorrow, as long as the infamous Egghead doesn't foil my plans.

Kellogg's mascots dressed to fight crime, Spider-Toucan?

I don't re-post things from other blogs very often, but this is just too bizarre.

read all about it over at BattleGrip and the Mexican Kellogg's site.

Playmobile Blind Bagged Figures Series 2

I made a quick run into my local Wegmans to grab some veggies and hummus and a couple of these guys fell into my cart.

I didn’t really plan on grabbing any of these, intending to save my money for more pressing matters, but for less than $3 I figure I’d give ‘em a go.

Lots of parts, more than I expected.

What the . . ?!?!?

Stick on jewels, I can't believe something like this is included.  Took me a few minutes to figure out what they were for.

They're stick on eyes for the skull, neat.

I think I got one of the better characters of this series.  A lot of detail in this pirate.  I'll reveal the second of the two I bought soon.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens today . . .

That is all.

Disney Racers

Yesterday I wrote about the Kermit the Frog Disney Racer.  I haven't picked up many of these, a few here and there.

The line has evolved, having started out as Disney Wild Racers.  The Wild Racers were available outside of the parks, at your local Target, Toys R Us, etc.

When the line became a theme park exclusive, they toned it down, made it less extreme and the "Wild" was dropped from the name and they simply became Disney Racers.

I grabbed these two because they were park specific, I eat that stuff up.

There have been a crap load of these, for a ton of different cartoon and movie characters.  I remember seeing different Pixar movie characters, Nightmare Before Christmas cars and others in addition to the classic Disney characters.

The line has reached beyond Disney properties too.  I guess Star Tours and the Star Wars days were enough of a reason to drop Star Wars icons into the line.

There may have been an Indiana Jones Racer too, I'm too lazy too look it up right now.

That brings us back around to Kermit, who needs some friends. Looking at the scope of the line, I'm sure hoping we'll see more Muppet racers down the road.
